Stellantis Cancels Flagship Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Banshee EV
Stellantis has cancelled the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Banshee, the flagship electric vehicle (EV) of the Dodge Charger lineup. This move is part of a strategic shift back towards internal combustion engines, with the company reviewing its plans for future SRT vehicles.
The 800-volt high-performance electric variant was planned to be the pinnacle of the Charger lineup. However, sluggish sales of the existing Charger Daytona EV have led to its cancellation. Stellantis has not explicitly denied this, with supplier sources confirming the project is dead.
Meanwhile, Hurricane I6-powered Sixpack vehicles are expected to hit dealerships before the end of the year. This could signal a return to prominence for internal combustion engines in the Dodge lineup. The cheaper electric Charger trim, the Daytona R/T, has also been discontinued, leaving only the $74,000, 670-hp Scat Pack.
The cancellation of the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Banshee reflects Stellantis' reassessment of its product strategy to align with consumer demand. While electric vehicles remain a part of the plan, the company is exploring the potential reintroduction of a V8 engine in the Dodge Charger lineup.
