Teen's CHF 1500 Stolen in Twint Scam, GKB Refuses Refund
A teenager from Graubünden fell victim to a scam, losing CHF 1500 after fraudsters accessed her Twint account. Despite blocking the account, the scammers managed to empty it. The teenager visited Graubünden Cantonal Bank GKB for help, but the bank refused to refund her.
The teenager discovered the fraud and swiftly blocked her Twint account. However, the scammers still made three withdrawals, each around CHF 500, before the account was secured. The teenager and her mother then visited GKB to report the incident and seek assistance. Unfortunately, the bank refused to refund the teenager, stating she was at fault for sharing her login details. GKB cited strong security measures, including biometric two-factor authentication and 3D Secure processes, to protect users during Twint transactions. However, these measures could not prevent the fraudulent transactions in this case. The bank also could not explain why their general hotline was unreachable during the incident. It is believed the scammers posed as potential buyers on classified ads portals to trick the teenager into revealing her sensitive information.
