Tesla Trains Firefighters on EV, Battery Safety in California
Tesla recently hosted a crucial training event for firefighters and first responders in San Bernardino, California. The event, held in collaboration with the German Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport (BMDV) and other partners, focused on handling emergencies involving electric vehicles (EVs) and lithium-ion batteries.
The special training, held on October 27–29, 2021, centered around safely managing fires in Tesla vehicles, including the Semi, and energy storage products like Powerwall, Megapack, and solar installations. Tesla engineers offered guidance on responding to incidents involving charging stations and large-scale energy storage units.
One key strategy taught was to let the fire burn itself out if there's no immediate risk to people or nearby structures. This approach is part of Tesla's mission to support the transition to sustainable energy and ensure the safety of all involved.
The training event equipped firefighters and first responders with the knowledge and confidence to handle emergencies involving EVs and lithium-ion batteries. Tesla reassured participants that with the right mindset, preparation, and standard equipment, these fires can be managed effectively.
