Tesla Cybertrucks Join Jalisco's Police Fleet Ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup

Jalisco, Mexico, is gearing up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a significant upgrade to its police fleet. The state has added Tesla Cybertrucks to its ranks, marking a bold step towards innovation and sustainability[5].

The Cybertrucks, wrapped in matte black with integrated red and blue lights, will be distributed across the Guadalajara metropolitan area and other parts of the state. These vehicles are designed to serve as mobile command centers, and they will be equipped with SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet for connectivity[1].

The addition of the Tesla Cybertrucks is part of a broader security upgrade that includes 678 new vehicles. The new fleet also includes heavily armoured Black Mamba Sandcats[2]. The investment in this equipment and infrastructure is reported to amount to around MX$970 million, with the Cybertrucks alone costing around 630 million pesos[3].

The deployment of these high-tech vehicles is expected to assist in intelligence gathering, surveillance, and emergency response operations during the World Cup. They will patrol key tourist areas such as Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta, and Tequila[4].

However, not everyone is in agreement with this investment. Jalisco Senator Carlos Lomelí has criticised the spending on the Tesla Cybertrucks, demanding transparency in the bidding process and questioning their effectiveness in combating security challenges[6].

Despite the criticisms, the U.S. Embassy in Mexico has praised the deployment of Tesla Cybertrucks in Jalisco's police fleet, describing it as a "bold step towards innovation" and an investment in both sustainability and citizen safety[5].
