Tesla's HW4 Computer Fails in New Vehicles, Disrupting Autopilot and Navigation
Tesla stock is facing a recent issue with some of its vehicles. Deliveries equipped with the Hardware 4 (HW4) central vehicle computer have reportedly experienced failures, leading to customer complaints. This crucial component powers Autopilot functions and navigation, causing significant inconvenience for owners.
The problem is tied to the HW4.1 computers in recently delivered cars, affecting models globally, including in Europe. The issue is linked to a short circuit in the HW4 computer and often occurs within the first few hundred kilometers of delivery. This results in the loss of features such as navigation, cameras, and safety systems.
Tesla is planning a software update to address the issue, expected in 2-3 weeks. However, the only current solution is a complete replacement of the HW4 computer. Some owners have reported the issue recurring, despite the replacement. Service appointments for the issue are being delayed for weeks or even up to two months. Tesla has not issued a formal recall or service bulletin for the issue yet.
Tesla owners are encouraged to share their experiences with HW4 failures in the comments. Some owners speculate that cold weather may exacerbate the issue due to low voltage batteries. Tesla is working on a software update to resolve the problem, but owners should be prepared for potential delays in service appointments.
