The Outlook for the Coming Days of 'Star Wars Battlefront' Sequel or Updates?

Star Wars Battlefront III has resurfaced as a topic of discussion among gamers and fans following a new wave of interest in Star Wars Battlefront II (2017), developed by DICE. The renewed popularity of the multiplayer shooter series, spurred by the recent May 4 holiday and comments from Andor actor Muhannad Ben Amor, has ignited calls for a third installment.

Over nearly two decades, Star Wars Battlefront has existed in two distinct phases. Its initial games were released during the prequel era and developed by Pandemic Studios, while the more recent entries hail from Battlefield developer DICE. Despite multiple development attempts, none of the versions reached number three. One version that almost made it to production was a Battlefront III for the original series, which was in development with several studios, including Timesplitters creator Free Radical Design.

As of now, DICE remains focused on upcoming Battlefield projects, making it unlikely for another Battlefront game to be developed by EA or any of its studios in the near future. Former live producer Mats Holm recently suggested a remaster of Battlefront II as a stepping stone towards a proper sequel, preferably with input from the previous development team. However, Electronic Arts' selectiveness with remastering titles raises questions as to whether such a project would materialize.

Star Wars has primarily focused on single-player titles since 2019's Fallen Order, with upcoming titles like Ubisoft's Star Wars Outlaws and Bit Reactor's 2026 Zero Company. Multiplayer games, such as Star Wars Squadrons, have not been re-committed to since the controversy surrounding Battlefront II's monetization in 2017. Epic Games' battle royale Fortnite, with its Galactic Battle tie-in event, numerous in-game skins, and plot-important audio logs featured in Rise of Skywalker, has become a significant player in the franchise's multiplayer landscape.

In light of the growing interest and the ongoing popularity of Fortnite, some fans are hopeful that a Star Wars Battlefront III could find a place in the franchise's future. However, with online games quickly being phased out and the franchise's focus on single-player experiences, the viability of such a project remains uncertain.

  1. Gizmodo and io9 have previously speculated about the possibility of a Star Wars Battlefront III, given the renewed interest in the Battlefront series and the success of Epic Games' Fortnite.
  2. Some avid sports-betting enthusiasts might find entertainment in wagering on the likelihood of a Star Wars Battlefront III, considering the ongoing debate about its potential among gamers and fans.
  3. technology enthusiasts might be intrigued by the prospect of a next-generation Star Wars Battlefront III, as they eagerly await advances in gaming gadgets that could enhance the multiplayer experience.
  4. With the future of multiplayer Star Wars games uncertain due to the shift towards single-player experiences and the decline of online games, the fate of a Star Wars Battlefront III is still unclear; this leaves sports-betting aspects open for discussion among fans.
