Thousands of Electric Delivery Vehicles (EDVs) developed by Rivian are being deployed by Amazon US, with plans for European expansion.
Amazon has taken a significant step in its commitment to sustainable delivery methods, announcing the rollout of more than 300 electric delivery vans (EDVs) in Europe. These vans are manufactured by Rivian, a California-based electric vehicle manufacturer.
The Rivian vans, which have been operational in over 800 regions and cities in the United States since 2021, are now being used for deliveries in Europe. Amazon began deploying these vans on US roads in 2021, and as of mid-2023, over 5,000 of these EDVs have been in operation across the country.
The Rivian van is equipped with a full suite of advanced driver assistance systems and boasts a cab design that minimizes blind spots, making it an ideal choice for urban delivery routes. Amazon's deployment of these vans marks a significant stride towards its goal of ordering 100,000 electric delivery vans from Rivian for worldwide deliveries by 2030.
As of mid-2023, Amazon had not yet begun delivering packages with Rivian electric delivery vehicles in Europe. However, the company has already delivered more than 150 million packages using these vans in the US, demonstrating their efficiency and reliability.
With the expansion of Rivian vans to Europe, Amazon continues to lead the way in the adoption of electric vehicles for delivery purposes. This move aligns with the company's broader commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and promoting sustainable practices.
