TikTok reveals removal of approximately 25 million videos in Pakistan within the initial three months of 2025

In the first quarter of 2025, TikTok, the popular social media platform, removed a significant number of videos in Pakistan due to violations of its Community Guidelines. A total of 24,954,128 videos were taken down, accounting for a substantial portion of the content on the platform.

The specific reasons for removal fell into several categories, aligning with global data:

  • Sensitive or mature themes: 30.1% of the removed videos contained content that did not align with TikTok's content policies.
  • Privacy and security breaches: 15.6% of the videos violated privacy and security guidelines.
  • Safety and civility standards violations: 11.5% of the videos breached TikTok's safety and civility standards.
  • Misinformation: 45.5% of the removed videos were flagged as misinformation.
  • Edited media or AI-generated content: 13.8% of the videos were either edited media or AI-generated content.

These categories indicate the types of content TikTok actively monitors and removes to maintain safety, civility, accuracy of information, and user privacy on its platform.

The enforcement efforts in Pakistan have been robust, with a proactive removal rate of 99.4%. This means that almost all flagged videos were taken down before user complaints escalated. Furthermore, 95.8% of the removed videos were taken down within 24 hours of posting, demonstrating swift action.

These high enforcement rates reflect TikTok’s commitment to creating a safe and positive user environment in Pakistan, despite the challenges and demands of regulatory compliance.

It is worth noting that TikTok has faced regulatory challenges in Pakistan, with the service being banned for more than 15 months since the first ban in October 2020. However, a Pakistani court reversed the ban on TikTok in November 2021, after TikTok assured the government it would control the spread of objectionable content.

Globally, TikTok removed approximately 211 million videos during Q1 2025. The removal of videos in Pakistan represented about 0.9% of all content uploaded to TikTok. Additionally, 7,525,184 videos were reinstated after further review globally.

This robust enforcement, combined with the rapid removal of videos, underscores TikTok’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and positive user environment for its global community.
