The Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) Summit, held on January 14, 2023, brought together world leaders and influential figures to discuss and advance sustainable development and green technologies. The event served as a global platform dedicated to climate change and renewable energy, with a focus on innovation and practical action.

This year, the summit themed "Nexus of Next: Supercharging Sustainable Progress" sought to address the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly emphasizing environmental sustainability, climate action, renewable energy, and innovation across sectors such as water, mobility, biotechnology, and clean energy.

Key emphases at the event included climate adaptation and environmental governance, technological innovation to meet SDG challenges, collaboration and governance, and global partnerships and solidarity. The summit aimed to position Abu Dhabi as a global leader in environmental and climate action by the end of the century, as per the Abu Dhabi’s Environmental Centennial 2071 Plan.

Notable attendees at the summit included President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of Rwanda Paul Kagame, Prime Minister of Finland Petteri Orpo, Prime Minister of New Zealand Christopher Lacson, Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, among others. Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev also graced the grand opening of the summit.

While specific awards given at the Zayed Sustainability Prize Awards Ceremony, which was also part of the event, were not detailed, the ceremony aims to recognise Abu Dhabi’s governance leadership in sustainability.

The ADSW Summit acts as a major global catalyst to implement and fast-track the UN SDGs, with a strong focus on practical action, innovation, and governance to address climate change, sustainability, and resilience. The core spheres of focus strongly echo the UN goals related to Climate Action (SDG 13), Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7), Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6), Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (SDG 9), Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17).

The ADSW Summit continues to play a pivotal role in driving global progress towards a sustainable future, fostering collaboration, innovation, and practical action to combat climate change and promote green technologies and renewable energy sources. The event was reported by Akorda, further highlighting its significance in the global arena.
