Turkey plans to dispatch radar systems from Aselsan to Damascus Airport, aimed at enhancing aviation safety.

In a significant move to bolster Syria's aviation infrastructure, Turkey has shipped a series of advanced landing and navigation systems to Damascus International Airport. The delivery, which took place on September 17, 2023, marks a crucial step towards enhancing air traffic safety and security at the airport.

The shipment, prepared by Turkey's General Directorate of State Airports Authority, includes an Instrument Landing System (ILS) and a Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) system, along with a Directional Radio Navigation System (DVOR). These systems, designed to provide direction and distance information to aircraft, as well as facilitating aircraft landing on the runway, will undergo technical installation following the completion of necessary infrastructure setup.

The ILS device, in particular, is instrumental in allowing pilots to approach the runway safely and at the correct angle, even in adverse weather conditions. Once installation and calibration are completed, air traffic at the Damascus Airport will significantly benefit from increased safety and efficiency.

Aselsan-manufactured radar equipment is set to be deployed next week as part of technical support for Syria's aviation infrastructure. This additional equipment is expected to further enhance the airport's capabilities, contributing to a more secure and reliable air traffic management system.

This initiative underscores Turkey's commitment to improving aviation safety and fostering regional cooperation. The delivery of these advanced systems to Damascus Airport is a testament to Turkey's role as a key player in the aviation sector and its dedication to supporting the development of aviation infrastructure in the region.
