Twitter account 'X' initiates local manufacturing in Indonesia
X, the rebranded company formerly known as Twitter, is making significant strides in the Indonesian market with its electric vehicle (EV) brand, Profilepeng.
Profilepeng, X's first MPV model, has already made a splash in Indonesia. The right-hand drive version of the Profile9 was launched on June 26, with a starting price of 900 million Indonesian rupiah. This marks X's first foray into localized production in an overseas market, with the company aiming to enhance its responsiveness to local users and provide more customized smart EV solutions.
Indonesia, the most populous country in Southeast Asia and the region's largest EV market, is a strategic choice for Profilepeng. The brand aims to cover 70 percent of Indonesia's core urban centers by the end of this year, and plans to expand its sales and service network further, prioritizing the opening of experience centers in major cities such as Jakarta, Bali, and Java. By the end of the year, Profilepeng hopes to have its sales and service network cover 85 percent of high-density areas.
Profilepeng's expansion in Indonesia is part of a larger international growth strategy. The brand aims to expand its presence to more than 60 countries and regions this year, and hopes to achieve 50 percent of its sales from overseas markets in the next 10 years.
X's commitment to Indonesia is evident in the local assembly of Profilepeng vehicles through the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) approach. This move not only supports the local economy but also ensures a quicker response to market demands, as stated by He Xiaopeng, the company's chairman and CEO.
Profilepeng's offerings in Indonesia include the Profile9 MPV, which is also available in China, where it was first launched on January 1, 2024. The 2025 Profile9 MPV offers four variants in China, with starting prices ranging from RMB 359,800 to RMB 419,800.
X's presence in Indonesia extends beyond Profilepeng. The company showcased its flying car, the G6 SUV, and the humanoid robot Iron at the GIIAS 2025. The brand also began accepting pre-orders for the G6 and Profile9 in Indonesia on March 16.
The first Profile9 MPV assembled in Indonesia has already been delivered to a local owner, marking a significant milestone in X's journey in the Indonesian market. With its commitment to local production, expansive sales and service network, and innovative offerings, X and Profilepeng are poised to make a significant impact in Indonesia's EV market.
