Twitter's profile for X will reveal an updated design of the G6 SUV on the 28th of February.
In a significant move, Chinese electric vehicle company XPeng has unveiled the facelifted version of its popular G6 model, set to hit the market on February 28. The new G6 promises cutting-edge technology, ultra-fast charging capabilities, and advanced AI-driven self-driving systems, marking a substantial evolution over its predecessor.
The G6 sports a redesigned exterior, featuring a full-width 1942 mm Starlight Wing LED light bar with integrated turn signals, and a redesigned rear diffuser for a cleaner look. A new matte metallic "Stellar Purple" paint option offers a unique color gradient that shifts under different lighting, blending elegance with sporty dynamism.
Inside, the cabin is 60% redesigned, boasting a new dashboard and microfiber capacitance steering wheel. Material quality improvements are evident throughout, and massage seats with lumbar support come standard, enhancing comfort. The cockpit is powered by a high-performance chip supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The G6 utilises XPeng's next-generation 800V high-voltage SiC platform alongside an industry-first 5C supercharging lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. This allows ultra-fast charging capabilities—charging from 10% to 80% in just 12 minutes with peak charging speeds up to 451 kW. The battery is cobalt- and nickel-free, enhancing safety and sustainability.
The facelifted model comes with a fully upgraded intelligent driving system, featuring the new XPeng Touring AI chips, which enable advanced self-driving capabilities potentially at Level 2 or Level 3 autonomy. The system includes a single-pixel Lofic architecture that enhances sensor perception with greater accuracy, clarity, and longer range for improved safety and control. The steering wheel's microfiber capacitance sensor further supports these advanced driving features.
While the regulatory filing for the updated G6 makes no mention of LiDAR, LiDAR technology remains a critical component in the 2025 G6 facelift for improved autonomous driving and safety. The upgraded intelligent driving suite continues to incorporate LiDAR technology as part of its sensor array.
XPeng has listened to user feedback to improve the details of the G6. The company replaced 34 percent of the tier 1 assembly parts on the 2025 G6. The updated G6 measures 4,758 mm in length, longer than the current model's 4,753 mm. The other dimensions remain unchanged, with a width of 1,920 mm, a height of 1,650 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,890 mm.
The pricier G9 SUV also entered China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology regulatory catalog at the same time as the updated G6. Both models, including the facelifted G6, were officially launched by XPeng in China on June 29, 2023, and played a significant role in the company's sales reversal from the previous year.
The new G6 is priced from RMB 199,900 ($27,560) to RMB 276,900 in China. XPeng plans to expand its reach in Europe with these models.
The live video stream of the unveiling will begin at 2 pm Beijing time. The 2025 G6's facelift is set to compete with the facelifted Tesla Model Y deliveries, which are also set to begin in China on the same day. The company's chairman and CEO, He Xiaopeng, stated that the new G6 is a long-awaited offering for 2025.
