The UK government has unveiled the Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIP) action plan. This initiative aims to expedite the construction of new transport links and offshore wind farms. The plan, developed with multiple government departments, focuses on enhancing connectivity, boosting energy security, and achieving Net Zero by 2050.

The Secretary of State, who holds authority over planning approvals for NSIPs, including datacentres, has been instrumental in developing this action plan. Communities will now have access to view Planning Performing Agreements for these infrastructure projects.

A fast-track project pilot will be implemented to reduce timescales for certain projects. The plan also emphasises increased community engagement and strengthened environmental protections. It aligns with the government's commitment to level up communities, spread opportunity, and drive economic growth. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's priority to deliver economic growth through improved connectivity and transport links is reflected in this action plan.
