Deus Ex: Resurrected from the Past on PS5
Unveiled in Sony's State of Play, a peculiar revival of Deus Ex's PlayStation 2 edition takes center stage.
Hey there, Game Pals! I'm not usually the console guy around here, but we've got some news that deserves your attention. Deus Ex, the granddaddy of PC gaming, is making an unexpected comeback on Sony's PlayStation 5 (PS5), as if the console, famous for its iconic controller shape, decided it needed a dose of cyberpunk.
Intriguingly, we're not talking about the latest installment of the series here. No sir! We're talking about the original Deus Ex, which was originally released for PC back in 2000 and later, in a modified form, for the PlayStation 2 (PS2) in 2002.
This unexpected resurrection is made possible via Sony's PlayStation Plus Premium service, which, in a strange turn of events, seems somewhat similar to Microsoft's Game Pass. So here we have it — the most PC game of all time, and I mean that in the best possible way, is available on a console!
Now, I know what you're thinking, "PC Master Race, bud! This isn't how it's supposed to be." Hear me out! The PS2 version of Deus Ex had some unique tweaks, making it an intriguing curiosity, much like a genetically modified (in this case, electronically modified) organism. Some aspects of the game were improved, while others were significantly compromised due to the PS2's memory limitations.
For instance, the game's original main theme was given an orchestral rendition, the characters' models received a minor facelift, and the cutscenes were replaced with full-on CG sequences. On the flip side, the game suffered from loading issues, simplified inventory management, and other changes that took away from the PC experience.
So should you play it? Well, that depends. If you're a die-hard Deus Ex fan and have nothing better to do, then by all means, give it a go. However, if you're new to the world of Deus Ex, I'd recommend starting with the PC version first, or even better, one of its later installments.
All this talk about Deus Ex got me thinking about the vast library of gaming history waiting to be unearthed. I can't help but hope that game publishers, like the Embracer Group, might take this step towards preserving and sharing some of their less celebrated titles with a modern audience. Here's hoping we'll soon see some other fascinating offshoots of popular series finding their way onto our screens.
Just remember, as we dive deeper into the future, it's important not to forget our past. And who knows? Maybe the next game-changing Deus Ex is still out there, waiting to be discovered. Keep exploring, my friends!
