Update brings long-awaited features to Nano Cortex from Neural DSP for player satisfaction
The music technology world is abuzz with the latest update from Neural DSP, the NanOS 2.1.0 firmware for the Nano Cortex amp modeler. This update brings significant improvements to tap tempo controls and MIDI functionality, making the Nano Cortex more gig-ready and flexible than ever.
The tap tempo controls have been streamlined, allowing users to easily set the tempo on the device itself. To enter Tap Tempo mode, simply hold Footswitch I, and its LED will blink at the current tempo. Tap Footswitch I to set the tempo, and press Footswitch II to exit the mode. In the Cortex Cloud app, the Tempo menu now features a tap pad, precise BPM entry, and options to select between global or preset-specific tempos.
MIDI functionality has also received an upgrade. Incoming MIDI CC messages are now supported for bypassing individual device slots, controlling the expression pedal position remotely, tap tempo control, and tuner on/off enable/disable. MIDI Thru functionality is introduced, forwarding MIDI messages from the TRS MIDI input to the USB MIDI output, enabling chaining of MIDI devices. An IR Loader Bypass on specific outputs lets users bypass the impulse response loader independently per output.
Other notable improvements include USB playback volume control, features for muting inputs and outputs aiding re-amping workflows, and the option to keep reverb and delay trails active even when bypassing the Nano Cortex in certain modes.
This update is recognised as a significant enhancement, making the Nano Cortex much more gig-ready by allowing flexible tempo control and improved MIDI integration that users had requested since launch. The market for smaller-sized amp modelers is fierce, and this update helps bolster the Nano Cortex's position against new competition, such as the AI-equipped modeler from Mooer.
In April, a significant firmware update added 47 new effects and improved control over the signal chain to the Nano Cortex. With the NanOS 2.1.0 update, Neural DSP continues to push the boundaries of what's possible with compact amp modelers, making it an exciting time for musicians and music technology enthusiasts alike.
