Upgraded Version of Wuling Mini EV: Introducing the Long-Range Edition

The Chinese automaker Wuling has unveiled an updated version of its popular electric vehicle, the Hongguang Mini EV. This compact micro car, designed primarily for city and short-distance travel, has now received several key improvements, making it an attractive option for urban commuters.

The most significant change in the updated model is the introduction of a long-range version. This variant offers a driving range of up to **170 km** under the CLTC cycle, a considerable increase from the base model's range[1]. Some extended range variants can reportedly reach even beyond 200-300 km depending on configuration, but the official spec for the 2024 model is 170 km[4].

The long-range version is powered by a **20 kW (approximately 27 hp)** motor, producing a maximum torque of **85 Nm**, providing adequate performance for urban driving. The top speed is capped at around **100 km/h**[1]. The vehicle uses a **13.4 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery**, which balances energy density and safety, supporting the extended range while keeping costs and weight manageable[1].

The updated Hongguang Mini EV also features redesigned front and rear light units, as well as a 77 mm increase in length, making it more spacious inside[2]. Pictures of the updated model show monochrome and duotone paint jobs in black and white, giving it a sleek, modern look.

One intriguing detail is the Game Boy logo emblazoned on the C-pillar of the updated model, indicating a possible special edition aimed at a male audience[6]. The rear seats are expected to provide more legroom due to the extended wheelbase, which has increased by 70 mm compared to the current version[3].

The long-range version of the updated Hongguang Mini EV is expected to qualify for a government incentive of up to RMB 16,200 (approximately €2,000 or $2,500), further enhancing its affordability[7]. This vehicle is part of a growing trend of compact, affordable electric vehicles in China, with new competitors entering the mini EV segment on a weekly basis[8].

The long-range version of the updated Hongguang Mini EV is also expected to earn Wuling NEV credits, which trade between $500 and $1000, providing a potential margin[9]. With its extended range, attractive pricing, and potential government incentives, the updated Wuling Hongguang Mini EV is poised to offer a cost-effective and accessible electric mobility option for urban drivers.
