Upkeep and optimization of Geely E5's battery life: Achieve extended range at a lower cost

The Geely E5/EX5, a popular electric SUV from Chinese manufacturer Geely, has undergone a significant revamp for the 2026 model year in China. The updates include a range increase and a slight price decrease, making it an even more attractive option for consumers.

The new Geely E5 now offers two battery options, with improved CLTC ranges of 530 km and 610 km, compared to the previous ranges of 440 km and 530 km. The base model now starts at RMB 109,800 ($15,340), a 2.66% reduction from the previous starting price of RMB 112,800. The price range for the five available variants is RMB 109,800 to RMB 145,800.

The base version of the revised Geely E5 features a 60.2 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, while the higher-priced variants boast a 68.39 kWh battery. These changes have kept the price stable or slightly lower despite the longer range[1][3][4][5].

The top version of the Geely E5, which is also the most comprehensively equipped, costs 148,800 yuan (approximately 18,000 euros). The model, also known as the EX5, features an electric motor at the front axle with 160 kW and 320 Nm of torque, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds[2].

Geely's E5 has been making waves internationally, with sales in 35 countries including Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand, several South-Eastern European countries, and the United Kingdom. In Malaysia, a rebadged version called the eMas 7 might receive a battery upgrade similar to the Chinese model around year-end, but prices there are expected to be higher due to taxes and localization factors[4].

The Geely E5 now measures 4.62 meters in length. It was first introduced in May 2024. The range of the Geely E5 has significantly increased according to the local CLTC standard[6]. However, it remains to be seen if prices on other markets will also decrease.

The Geely E5/EX5, following its update, now offers two battery options with improved CLTC ranges, making it more competitive in the automotive industry, particularly compared to other electric-vehicles. The base model's price has decreased by 2.66% to RMB 109,800, while the most expensive variant, also known as the EX5, features an electric motor and costs 148,800 yuan. Geely's E5 has been successful globally, selling in 35 countries and potentially receiving a battery upgrade in Malaysia. Different markets, however, still await news on price reductions similar to China, as the Geely E5's competitive price point has significantly influenced its popularity in finance and lifestyle sectors. The technology advancements in the Geely E5's electric-vehicles have impacted the transportation industry by increasing ranges and offering more affordable electric SUVs, thus encouraging more people to switch to electric vehicles.
