Mercedes-Benz secures access to Tesla's Supercharger network in the United States, with an expansion to Canada anticipated later this year.

Upon announcement, Mercedes-Benz vehicles in the United States will gain access to Tesla's Supercharger network, with plans for Canada to follow suit later in the year.

Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle (EV) owners in the United States can now charge their vehicles at Tesla Superchargers, following a dealership-installed software update that enables Tesla Supercharger compatibility and activates Mercedes' "Plug & Charge" functionality. However, Canadian customers will have to wait until later this year for access, with the exact reasons for the delay remaining unclear.

The software update, which cannot be installed remotely, allows drivers to initiate charging sessions automatically at Tesla Superchargers without additional authentication or payment steps. This convenience is made possible through Mercedes' "Plug & Charge" functionality.

For those wanting to take advantage of this new feature, the NACS adapter is available for purchase through Mercedes-Benz dealerships in the US for $185. Unfortunately, Canadian customers will have to wait for availability and pricing details later this quarter.

Tesla has opened its network to other brands through its North American Charging Standard (NACS) initiative, and Mercedes-Benz joins a growing list of automakers, including Ford, General Motors, and Rivian, in integrating Tesla's charging infrastructure into their ecosystem.

Supercharger locations will be integrated into the Mercedes me Charge app and the vehicle's navigation system, allowing drivers to view real-time charging costs, availability, and routing options that include Tesla Superchargers as part of their trip planning.

Mercedes-Benz was granted access to Tesla's Supercharger network in February, and the company has announced plans to begin integrating NACS charge ports directly into its North American EVs starting in 2025.

Despite the delay for Canadian customers, it's clear that this collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and Tesla is paving the way for a more connected and convenient charging experience for EV drivers. Both companies have yet to provide an explanation for the delay north of the border.
