Vienna drops title as the world's most livable city.
In the latest rundown of the planet's most livable spots, there's a new champ dethroning the previous title holder: Copenhagen has finally lost its crown after three triumphant years, with Vienna taking the top spot on the Global Liveability Index 2025. Vienna shares the runner-up position with ever-reliable Zurich, Switzerland, and the innovative city of Melbourne, Australia, follows closely behind. Rounding out the top ten are Geneva, Switzerland, Sydney (AUS), Osaka (JPN), Auckland (NZ), Adelaide (AUS), and Vancouver (CA).
Copenhagen's downfall, as per "Economist," can be attributed to minor dips in stability, which saw it fall from gracious first place. However, the Danish capital scored a perfect 100 in stability, education, and infrastructure, a remarkable feat nonetheless.
The Global Liveability Index, conducted annually by the research and analysis division of the Economist Group, takes the living conditions of 173 worldwide cities into account, weighing them across 30 indicators spread across categories like healthcare, culture, education, and infrastructure. Standing at the bottom of the list, far removed from the top ten, are Damascus (SYR), Tripoli (LBY), Dhaka (BGD), Karachi (PAK), and Algiers (ALG).
