Western Canada Receives Initial High-Power EV Charging Station from On The Run (400 kW)
On The Run Unveils Canada's First 400 kW Charging Station in Delta, B.C.
On The Run, a subsidiary of Parkland Corporation, has made a significant stride in Canada's electric vehicle (EV) charging landscape by deploying a 400 kW DC fast charger in Delta, British Columbia. This marks the first installation of such high-power chargers in Western Canada, marking a step forward in aligning with industry trends that favour faster charging to reduce EV charging times.
Located at 8579 120 Street in Delta, the charging station features three chargers: one A400 unit offering up to 400 kW, and two Terra 184 chargers rated at 180 kW each. This installation represents a shift from the previously common 150 kW chargers to much faster units, supporting a future-proof EV charging network that can serve more demanding battery technologies and driver needs.
The chargers at the Delta station support both CCS and CHAdeMO connectors, enhancing compatibility for a broad range of EVs. However, Tesla drivers will need to bring their own adapter to charge at On The Run's stations, with a maximum charging speed of 50 kW with a CHAdeMO adapter or 250 kW with a CCS adapter.
As an added incentive, all charging sessions at the new station are free through the Journie Rewards app for a limited time. On The Run has plans to expand with four 400 kW chargers in British Columbia this spring, followed by two in Quebec, and Ontario is expected to receive ultra-fast chargers later in the year. All expansion plans' equipment is supplied by ABB Group.
This move fits into broader Canadian efforts to scale up fast charging infrastructure, supported by government programs and industry coalitions advocating for more accessible, economically viable EV charging stations across the country. On The Run's deployment of 400 kW ultra-fast chargers is part of a strategic expansion in Canada targeting faster charging capabilities and greater coverage, helping to accelerate EV adoption by addressing charging speed and convenience challenges.
