WhatsApp Warns of Scam Targeting Beta Testers

Users are warned about a scam targeting WhatsApp beta testers. Victims are tricked into paying for alleged beta access, with no way to dispute the payments.

Scammers are posing as WhatsApp representatives on Telegram and other social media platforms. They use manipulated screenshots and fake verification badges to lure users into paying between $25 and $50 for access to a private test group via PayPal's 'Friends and Family' option.

WhatsApp itself never sells beta access and does not operate on Telegram. The genuine WhatsApp beta program for iOS is managed via Apple's TestFlight app. Scammers exploit this lack of moderation on scam accounts to deceive users, claiming victims would have access to exclusive features with the fake beta version.

Once the beta program is full, new users can't join unless someone leaves. Scammers exploit these closures to offer fake invitations on Telegram, tricking users into sharing personal data for alleged beta program access.

WhatsApp beta testers should not share personal data for alleged beta program access. If approached on platforms other than Apple's TestFlight, it's likely a scam. Victims have no recourse to challenge payments made for these alleged WhatsApp beta offers.
