World's Swiftest Hybrid Car Unveiled: Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid (Video)
The Hyundai Ioniq, a new car from the South Korean automaker, is making waves in the industry. Not only is it a sensible family car, but it has also broken the world land speed record for a production-based hybrid car.
The Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid, available for sale in the UK, now holds the title of the fastest production-based hybrid car in the world. This record was set at the Bonneville Salt Flats, where the Ioniq Hybrid reached a top speed of 157.825mph.
The engineering team behind the Ioniq worked tirelessly to set a new segment benchmark and demonstrate the durability of the Ioniq vehicle platform. Mike O'Brien, a US Hyundai VP, expressed pride in setting the FIA hybrid-category record with the new Ioniq Hybrid.
The Ioniq Hybrid comes with a 1.6 litre mild hybrid setup, offering 140bhp. It boasts an official economy of 74.2mpg, a 0-62mph time of 10.8 seconds, and a top speed of 115mph. The Ioniq Hybrid you can buy from a local Hyundai dealer has a top speed of less than 161mph (157.825mph + peak exit speed of 160.7mph).
The Hyundai Ioniq is expected to compete with the Toyota Prius in terms of performance and efficiency. It is a direct challenge to the Prius, offering a choice of three powertrains: BEV, Hybrid, and Plug-in Hybrid. The updated Hyundai Ioniq, available in hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and EV versions, costs from £22,795 to £31,450 in the UK.
The Hyundai Ioniq Electric Premium SE costs £31,450 in the UK, while the Hyundai Ioniq Premium SE trim costs £31,450 for the hybrid version.
The Hyundai Ioniq debuted at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show and is aiming to establish itself as a 'Green Car Maker' in the industry. With its record-breaking performance and eco-friendly options, the Hyundai Ioniq is certainly making a name for itself.
Despite extensive searches, the person who set the world record speed for the Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid at 157.825 mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats remains unknown. However, the record-breaking Ioniq Hybrid used for the land speed record had modifications such as nitrous, ECU tweaking, low restriction breathing, added aero tweaks, fettled suspension, and a great big lump of Salt Flat.
As the Hyundai Ioniq continues to make headlines, it's clear that this car is more than just a family vehicle. It's a testament to Hyundai's commitment to innovation and performance in the hybrid and electric vehicle market.
